About Sheri Johnson
As vice president of marketing for McCownGordon, Sheri leads the firm’s marketing and brand strategy. She oversees a team focused on brand building, corporate marketing, vertical market initiatives, sales support and internal communications. Her team manages everything from digital marketing, social media and advertising to public relations, sponsorships and events, and orchestrating RFP (request for proposals) responses. Sheri also serves on the company’s leadership team, which sets corporate strategy and guides strategic initiatives.
With more than 25 years of experience in marketing, Sheri holds deep experience in all aspects of brand management, including managing crises. Prior to joining McCownGordon, she served as president of a Kansas City marketing consulting firm, where she gained extensive expertise helping companies develop and execute integrated marketing communications programs. In addition to providing strategic marketing counsel and leading teams that implemented hundreds of marketing programs for clients, she developed numerous crisis communications plans designed to preserve the brand reputations of her clients in crisis scenarios. Sheri’s experience also includes media training executives to manage the intense public scrutiny that follows most crisis situations. Her clients included national consumer brands, global business-to-business companies and nonprofit organizations, including Merck Animal Health, the business-to-business arm of Hallmark, DST Systems, Tension Corporation, PetSmart, Verizon Wireless and many others.
Sheri regularly speaks on marketing topics for professional organizations. She also enjoys sharing her expertise with young professionals, including students at the University of Kansas, where she served as the chapter advisor for the student chapter of the Public Relations Society of America for nearly 20 years, and Underground Social, a women’s networking organization.
Sheri was named one of the Kansas City Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business in 2017 and an Influential Business Woman by Kansas City Magazine in 2013. She serves on the board of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City, is a member of the Greater Kansas City Chamber’s Executive Women’s Leadership Council and is a mentor for the Service Management Professionals Association. She previously served as board member and past board chair of Alphapointe, as well as on the boards of NonProfit Connect and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City. Sheri was also recognized as a Rising Star in Philanthropy in 2011 by NonProfit Connect and is a graduate of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s Centurions leadership program.
