KC IABC is a leading association for marketers and business communicators in the Greater Kansas City area.

Our acronym stands for Kansas City International Association of Business Communicators. KC IABC is an affiliate of a worldwide organization of professionals who want to grow in their skills and connect with peers.

We’re serious about professional development and have been recognized as the International Chapter of the Year multiple times. But we don’t take ourselves too seriously. In fact, we’re often referred to as “the friendliest club in Kansas City.”

Who is KC IABC for?
Our events are open to anyone who wants to learn and connect with Kansas City communicators. KC IABC programming is oriented toward professional marketers and business communicators. We have an eclectic blend of members and guests from these disciplines (and more):

  • Internal (employee) communications

  • External corporate communications

  • Advertising, marketing and public relations

  • Self-employed entrepreneurs (solo and otherwise)

  • Non-profits and government agencies

Employers in KC IABC range from mega companies such as Cerner and Sprint, to non-profits, small agencies and one-person shops.

What does KC IABC do?
We educate, connect and recognize marketing communications professionals in the Greater Kansas City area.

Education
KC IABC hosts monthly educational programs to help communicators keep up with trends in the industry and develop their skill sets. Topics are diverse but highly practical. Our goal is for attendees to leave each session with knowledge they can apply immediately. Just a few of our subjects have included:

  • Writing for maximum impact

  • Creating and updating a crisis communication plan

  • Media relations in an era of social media dominance

  • Marketing through storytelling

  • Business-to-business (B2B) communications strategy

  • Crafting effective visual presentations

  • Turning events and sponsorships into brand building experiences

  • Developing winning content campaigns

  • Building a personal brand throughout all stages of your career

  • Measuring the effectiveness of communication campaigns

Connecting
At KC IABC, we believe it’s what you know and who you know that matter for your career. Knowledge is power, but relationships are the conduit. Connecting with peers happens at our monthly events, day-long Business Communicators Summit and other activities. Many have found, however, that volunteering is the best way to build lasting professional relationships. Whether you serve on the board of directors, greet at events or join a committee, volunteering naturally opens the door to connect with peers.

KC IABC also provides an active job bank and our international arm shares leads on jobs nationwide. Many communications pros have found KC IABC integral to their career advancement.

We believe it’s what you know and who you know that matter for your career. Knowledge is power, but relationships are the conduit.

Recognizing
You and your colleagues do amazing work. And the world needs to know. That’s why we sponsor the KC Quills. This annual competition recognizes the best in Kansas City marketing communications in a diverse category of skill areas. In addition to the Quill entries, this event recognizes top communicators through our Lowell and Incredible award winners. In addition to the KC Quills, the Gold (international) and Silver (regional) Quills provide opportunities for recognition.
