If you don't invest in your career, who will?

Joining IABC was one of the best professional decisions I’ve ever made.

Brenda Poor
KC IABC President

Time doesn't stand still and there’s never enough of it. It often prevents us from doing things to invest in our careers and ourselves. I worked in television news for 30 years. It’s a fast-paced, daily deadline business and creating time for professional development or networking was challenging and nearly impossible.

When I began my next career in communications and marketing, I realized I needed to invest in my career. Joining IABC has been one of the best investments I’ve made. Now is a great time for you to join too!

Since 1970, IABC has set the standard for excellence for professional communicators. IABC emerged from the pandemic reinvigorated and ready to deliver more value to its members.  I’m excited to share the new offerings from IABC, and the great opportunities we have locally to serve on the KCIABC Board or a committee.

IABC now offers a variety of membership packages so you can pick the one that works for you. All come with access to many free resources and discounts on Quills award submissions, professional certifications, and the IABC world conference.

Membership also gives you access to the IABC Career Assessment and the IABC Career Roadmap, to help you discover areas of professional strength and suggest ways to continue your career development.

After listening to members, IABC created IABC Advance, a one-stop shop for strategic insights, skills, and information to drive tangible business results, and access to webinar recordings by leading experts in their profession and their field.

Finally, this year the certification programs received accreditation from the International Standards Organization (ISO). Nothing looks more impressive on a resume than a certification to show you have achieved the skills and expertise in your field!

I am honored to serve as the 2022-23 Board President of the Kansas City Chapter of IABC, and excited about the year ahead. Joining IABC was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my career. IABC has helped me grow professionally, but also personally. I gained a network of colleagues willing to provide feedback or brainstorm with me, new friendships, and skills.

KCIABC has open board and volunteer positions, and one may be just right for you! Learn more on our website, www.kciabc.com or, email us at KCIABCChapter@gmail.com.
