Taking that first step: Why joining KC IABC was the right move

Have you ever considered joining KC IABC but just haven’t taken that first step? I’ve been there. I know how you feel. It took me a long time before I finally dove in.
You’re thinking, “Will it be worth the cost? How active is it? Will members welcome me? Ugh, networking can be so awkward at first.”
I’m here to tell you that it is worth the cost and then some.
I joined KC IABC during a membership drive in 2016, paying the cost out of my own pocket. I was pretty nervous going to my first event – a professional development breakfast over automated marketing programs.
I didn’t know a single KC IABC member and wasn’t looking forward to those potentially awkward getting-to-know-you conversations that come with networking. Yet from the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted by smiles and welcoming conversations that were (gasp) not weird and awkward!
From there, my membership benefits expanded like a snowball going downhill. One of the very first people I spoke with let me know about a job opening I may be interested in. Just two events later, I was approached to join the Board.
I sat in free webinars hosted by IABC. Plus, I was meeting peers from a wide range of industries and business sizes…My network, industry knowledge, leadership skills, and friends multiplied far faster than I could have hoped.
Yet my story is not unique. Everyone, including you, can have these same experiences and membership benefits. KC IABC has a full calendar of professional development events, special interest groups you can join, and lots of opportunities to become more involved through a wide range of volunteer and board positions.
Now is definitely the time to join or renew your membership. During October, you can take advantage of a 10% savings in membership dues. Joining KC IABC is easy.
I joined KC IABC to expand my resume, make connections to others in the industry in preparation of future job hunts, and keep up on my marketing/communications/public relations skills.
My membership is elevating me both professional and personally…Where will KC IABC take you?
