The University of Kansas is seeking a Communications Coordinator to assist in the development and creation of communications focused primarily on strategic promotion of central IT services and resources to campus.

This position has responsibility for a wide range of branding and communications initiatives, including progressive print and email communications, KU IT’s social media presence, web content and online outreach, marketing collateral, videos, event planning, and other marketing and public relations efforts to support campus IT products and services.

The ideal candidate will be highly creative with strong writing and editing skills, and experience using Adobe Creative Suite for publication design and layout and video production. Because this position develops and executes communications plans for new and existing services, strong project management and organizational skills are required.

40% – Content and Message Development & Delivery
Plan, draft, design, edit and coordinate the delivery of communications related to activities, services, updates, initiatives, changes and incidents. Write and edit content for a range of communications vehicles, including newsletters, leadership memos, special publications, website, video scripts, etc.
Advises, assists and/or edits communications for internal KU departments and leaders. Helps maintain and other websites.

25% – Graphic Design & Branding
Design visually appealing, effective communications to engage various KU audiences and promote KU IT products and services and other university services and activities. Using KU branding concepts and tools, create and develop the graphic voice and branding for products, services and organizational identity. Prepare documents for printing and/or print, finish and assemble small-run publications, brochures or other handouts.

15% – Communications Planning and Strategy
Create and implement communications plans through collaborative work on project teams. Assist with overall communications strategy for organization. Evaluate effectiveness of messaging and execution.

10% – Social Media
Help plan, create and post social media messages. Track social media metrics and analytics.
Assist with social media strategy by evaluating opportunities for engaging customers through new social media channels.

10% – Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications, or relevant field, plus minimum of one year related professional experience.

Strong writing demonstrated by submitted samples and other application materials.

Demonstrated experience proofreading text to find and correct mistakes in grammar, style and spelling.

Good graphic design and publication layout skills as demonstrated by portfolio and other application materials.

Working expertise knowledge and skills in using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.

Experience translating complex ideas for a general audience through written and visual communications as demonstrated by application materials.

Salary & Benefits: Annual salary range: $42,000-$55,000
