Notre Dame de Sion School: Senior Director of Marketing & Communications
Reporting to the President, the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for establishing and implementing annual and long-range marketing strategies in line with the school’s mission, values and brand, delivering on them through internal and external communications. The Senior Director of Marketing & Communications enhances the school’s brand awareness by maintaining clear, accurate and engaging content that reaches all of Sion’s constituents: parents (future, past and present), students, faculty/staff, donors, alumni and friends of the school.

Notre Dame de Sion is a Catholic school with an emphasis on peace, justice, and love for people of all faiths. Notre Dame de Sion consists of the Grade School, where boys and girls aged 2 through 8th grade learn to become “knowledge seekers, our brother’s keepers, and difference makers,” and the High School, an all-girls college preparatory environment centered on “challenge, inspiration, and empowerment.” With nearly 650 students across two campuses, Sion provides an academically rigorous environment grounded in Catholic social teachings of peace, love, and justice.
The Senior Director is a member of the school’s leadership team, directly manages the Admissions Directors for Notre Dame de Sion’s co-ed Pre-K-8th grade school and all-girls high school, and works closely with the Development Director to develop strategy and oversee execution of marketing efforts to attract highly talented students and engage community stakeholders and donors. This position also works closely with Administration, Faculty, Parents and the Board of Directors.
The Senior Director of Marketing and Communications will develop and manage a budget, ensure school adherence to our identity and brand, oversee admission marketing efforts, support fundraising marketing, media relations, digital media, graphics, and related internal and external communications. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, resourceful and have impeccable communication and leadership skills. The position requires a seasoned professional able to engage successfully with a large variety of internal and external stakeholders in our community.
Duties of the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications include the following:
Brand Marketing and Management
Develops and implements an annual marketing and communications plan encompassing all projects and events for Admissions and Development
Oversees all digital communications channels including the monitoring of Notre Dame de Sion’s name and brand on the web and social media
Proofs all programs and materials produced and published by Sion intended for public consumption, excluding materials for academic purposes
Serves as secondary content creator, taking photos and videos for various publications
Plans, writes and edits the annual Sion newsmagazine in collaboration with the Advancement Team and third party vendors as needed
Assists in development and distribution of all event-related collateral
Updates Sion’s public website and manage website redesign process and ongoing enhancements
The Senior Director is responsible for the plan and implementation of all recruitment programs and initiatives with the support of the Assistant Director of Admissions for each Sion campus and is accountable for full enrollment of all divisions on both campuses.
Plan and implement all aspects of recruitment activities including but not limited to the annual open houses, informational evenings, targeted recruitment events held in conjunction with school sporting and arts events, and shadow visits.
Oversees the updates of all web and digital admissions materials completed by the Admissions team
Collaborates with Sion’s third-party vendors and consultants to update all admissions marketing and advertising collateral
Generate statistical reports and regularly report to the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees. Utilize the data to enhance recruitment strategies.
Attends the Board of Trustee Meetings and Committee meetings and other volunteer committee meetings as requested throughout the year
Collaborate with Assistant Director of High School Admissions to utilize Student Ambassadors and Shadow hosts for recruitment.
Supervise and work with Assistant Director of Grade School Admissions to maintain a database of fifth through eighth graders for mailing newsletters, invitations, reminder postcards and holiday greetings to keep Sion’s name in front of prospective students.
Works closely with the Director of Development to develop all print and digital communications related to fundraising efforts including the Sion Annual Fund, capital projects, planned giving, endowment and any additional fundraising appeals
Facilitates appropriate donor recognition, including updates of donor signage, donor thank you notes and completion of the annual report in collaboration with Director of Development
Collaborates with media buying agency to plan and implement the annual media plan
Coordinate and secure additional advertising not handled by media buyers including parish bulletins, event sponsorships, etc.
Manages advertising budget and facilitates payment as needed
Website, Email and Social Media Channels
Responsible for maintaining and updating Sion’s public website and working with appropriate departments to ensure accurate and timely display of content
Oversee and manage all official Sion social media channels and content strategy
Plan and implement a comprehensive email marketing strategy for advancement and school communication initiatives Crisis Communications
Serves as Public Information Officer (PIO) in the event of an incident
Serves as first responder for emergency communications, sending out text messages, drill messages, and any messages in the event of an incident
Collaborates with leadership team to write and distribute any messaging (press release, letter to parents, etc.) in the event of an incident
Maintains and updates the school’s crisis communications plan
Public and Media Relations
Serves as the primary point of contact for all media inquiries and coordinates interview requests with the appropriate subject matter expert
Writes and distributes all press releases and media advisories sent out by the school
Maintains and updates the school’s media contact list
Coordinates and executes any necessary press conferences
Pitches Sion-related stories to targeted media as appropriate
Exceptional written and verbal communicator who is adept at framing, positioning, and influencing

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, public relations, communications, or related field
Minimum of seven years professional public relations, journalism or marketing communications work
