Summary

Corporate Affairs develops and manages a wide range of programs, including internal and external communications, media relations, government and community relations, corporate giving, corporate brand and external and internal web presence. This position is integral to ensuring the execution of these programs and other activities. This position will support both internal and external communications activities.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: (Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time.)

Work to amplify our communications efforts across an array of channels (e.g., digital signage, intranet, email messaging, corporate newsletter, etc.), with messaging and stories that inspire internal enthusiasm and employee engagement by managing all existing employee communications channels while continually seeking new channels to meet evolving company needs.
Develop compelling content to ensure consistent, integrated delivery of the company story, positioning and key messages across all audiences.
Manage planning and execution of all-employee events, including scheduling, content development, speaker assignments, CEO support, employee communications and feedback, post-event wrap-up and continuous improvement.
Assist with the development of employee communications strategies to drive impact, engagement and focus on Compass Minerals’ business objectives, strategies and reputational priorities.
Support external communication activities including corporate branding, media activities and management of the external website and other external communication channels.
Manage complex, fast-moving and unexpected communications challenges while providing clarity to key audiences and protecting the company’s reputation.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Communications, Marketing or Journalism
4-6 years of experience in corporate communications or related field.

Competency

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

Knowledge

Proven capability to create and manage content for internal and external consumption, including, but not limited to: key messages, emails, presentations, scripts, news stories, manager resources, publications, etc.
Must be able to effectively collaborate and develop relationships with other departments.
Ability to develop and execute communications plans aligned with business goals.
Proven experience in handling several projects at once, while paying close attention to details.
Ability to manage events, from conceptualization to execution.
Comfortable working with employees at all levels of the organization and across functions, including supporting and counseling the C-suite.
Proven capabilities and sensitivity in working with confidential information/materials.
Project management experience including plan development, timeline management and issue resolution.
Experience in the development of content for traditional and new media channels with high impact and dynamic programming.
Ability to respond quickly and effectively in crisis situations to provide clarity to key audiences and to protect the company’s reputation.
Experience with a publicly traded company a plus.
Experience with a global business a plus.

Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent skills in Microsoft Office necessary.
Comfortable working in content management systems is necessary.
Skills in Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
Video production a plus.

Abilities

Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

Decision Making

A motivated self-starter and creative problem-solver.
