Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas: Manager Corporate Communications
As a member of the Marketing & Communications team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders; devise specific communications materials and campaigns; engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers; and develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns. We’re looking for great communicators who can understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs, video scripts and more.
Overseeing the operations, budget and employees in the corporate communications area.
Assist in developing and building the strategic vision for Media Relations in collaboration with leadership and marketing teams.
Write, edit, distribute and archive news releases generated by the company and its foundation.
Ensure all messaging aligns with key business strategies
Managing corporate communication coordinators in message development and delivery through appropriate communication tools, including editing, proof-reading and meeting deadlines.
Work with content marketing to conceptualize, create and leverage corporate content to include reports, referrals, videos and other premium assets.
Assist in building a compelling social strategy to complement corporate communications goals and integrating lead generation and conversion goals with our Demand Generation team.
Build, drive and maintain publishing momentum with 1-2 blog posts per week with existing blogging program while leveraging other team resources to execute.
Develop weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual media activity reports
Identify media and press opportunities
Championing and enforcing BCBSKS corporate style guidelines and BCBSA graphic style guidelines.
Creating and disseminating talking points, position papers and FAQs on the company’s operations, goals and activities.
Supervising the creation, production and distribution of member publications.
Supervising the creation, production and distribution of employee communications and educational campaigns including intranet and printed publications.
Creation and distribution of news releases and media information kits.
Planning and organizing media conferences and other promotional events as assigned.
Serve as corporate spokesperson on designated issues and coordinate activities of upper level staff members acting as spokespersons on designated issues.
College degree required; degree in journalism or communications preferred.
Prefer five to seven years experience in writing for and designing publications; publications planning and management; media relations including writing news releases and working with news media; communicating to an employee audience through several mediums including intranet; and developing and executing comprehensive communication campaigns. Experience in dealing with the public and public speaking also is required, as is management/administrative in the communications field. This position requires the ability to gain thorough knowledge and understanding of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas background, philosophy, internal operations and programs.
Organizational, project planning and management skills, including ability to lead team of account coordinators in servicing the communications needs of the organization. Business writing skills (including media releases, newsletters, sales, speech and letter writing) and an understanding of human relations techniques. Experience with editing and proofing written materials. Working knowledge of newsletter layout, typography, photography and desktop publishing; also knowledge of incorporating intranet site into overall employee communications plan. Familiarity and ability to work effectively with state and local news media operations, and public speaking skills.
Salary & Benefits: Position will start between $80,772 – $100,964
