Michelle_KellerMichelle Keller, VP-Community Engagement, Development and Outreach at Swope Health Services, has been named a Trustee of the William Allen White Foundation. The foundation supports the mission of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at The University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS.

Michelle is a long-time member of KC IABC and has served in many volunteer capacities for the chapter. She was named the Arthur E. Lowell Award recipient in 2014, KC IABC’s highest honor. Named for the late Arthur E. Lowell, the first honorary lifetime member of the chapter, the award recognizes business communicators in the Kansas City area who have qualities of excellence, achievement and civic involvement.

Michelle joins a long list of esteemed journalists, alumni and other visionary leaders who work to promote journalism education; freedom of speech, press and communication; and the legacy of William Allen White, according to a press release from the foundation.

Michelle is an adjunct faculty member at The University of Kansas’ Edwards Campus and serves on its Integrated Marketing Communications’ program’s advisory board. She also has been a guest lecturer in numerous classes on the Lawrence campus.

“We look for people who have connected in an important way with the School of Journalism and who bring vision to their ‘day’ jobs,” said Dr. Ann Brill, Dean of the School of Journalism, in the release. “We believe Michelle’s passion for our industry, community service and our students will make her an excellent trustee.”

Michelle says she was surprised by the honor.

“I had no idea when I started working with the School of Journalism so many years ago that it would culminate in such a meaningful way,” Michelle said. “I simply love teaching and being part of the University community. The students I’ve taught and interacted with are amazing. They definitely keep me on my toes.”

Michelle will be in Lawrence in April to attend several events of the foundation, including an awards program where journalist Charlie Rose will be honored.

Congrats from your KC IABC friends, Michelle!
